About Lions Clubs International

Lions Clubs International is one of the world’s largest and most active service club organisations, with a mission centered around community service, humanitarian efforts, and global impact. Founded in 1917, the organisation has grown to include over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.

Lions Clubs operate at a local level, where members volunteer their time to serve their communities through a wide range of initiatives, including support for vision and health programs, disaster relief, youth outreach, environmental efforts, hunger relief, and more. One of their hallmark causes is vision care, inspired by a 1925 challenge from Helen Keller to become “knights of the blind.”

The organisation’s motto, “We Serve,” reflects its dedication to improving lives and addressing both local and global challenges. Through partnerships with organisations like the United Nations and the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), Lions are able to extend their reach and impact significantly.

Lions Clubs International is non-political and non-religious, welcoming people of all backgrounds who share a passion for service. It promotes leadership development, fellowship, and a spirit of giving among its members, empowering them to make meaningful, sustainable change in the world.

Mombasa Eyesight Projects 2015/15

Newquay Lions funded 2 Outreach Eyesight Projects near Mombasa in Kenya. Lion Peter B joined the outereach camps where patients were screened free of charge and issued with eyedrops and glasses as required. Those with had cataracts were then taken the same day to The Pwani Lions Eye Hospital in Mombasa to have cataracts removed the next day and then transported home the following days. Lion Peter found the experience very humbling and rewarding whilst meeting with the incredibly grateful patients in the Hospital after they had received the Gift of Sight from Newquay Lions.
