Newquay Carnival Mile Race

RUN THIS WAY: IT’S COMING BACK THIS YEAR!

The much‑loved Newquay Carnival Mile Race returns this summer, starting outside The Fort Inn, Fore Street and finishing on the Barrowfields.

Taking place at 5.55pm on Saturday 4th July, just before the Newquay Carnival sets off, this revived one‑mile dash brings back a tradition last seen several years ago. The route runs through the heart of Newquay, with hundreds of spectators expected to line the streets and cheer on every runner.

Because this is the first event of its kind on this route for some time, entry numbers are limited and must be booked in advance. There will be no on‑the‑day entries. A huge thank‑you goes to the members of Newquay Road Runners for their enthusiasm and expertise in helping design the route and event logistics.

All roads along the course will be closed to traffic. However, as this is a fast road race in a confined but safe environment, the event is open to adults only. You must be 18 or over on 4th July 2026, and proof of age may be requested at registration. For those interested in the event’s history, one local runner recalls that in the 1990s as many as ten athletes ran under five minutes for the mile.

For safety reasons, no animals may accompany runners and headphones are not permitted.

Every finisher will receive a medal, and there will be a perpetual trophy for the first male and first female athletes to cross the line.

All entry fees will go directly to the Newquay Lions Club Community Fund, supporting local good causes and helping to deliver future community events such as Newquay Carnival.
